Transition into a New Season
Between 2016 and 2018, God began highlighting and emphasising Isaiah 43:18–19 to us:
“Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
Initially, it was a whisper that transition was coming. But by 2019, it had become a shout. Many in the global Body of Christ were hearing similar things from God — change was about to come; He was about to do a new thing.
With the benefit of hindsight, we now know that the shifts would be unprecedented as the season we would enter into is one of high transition!
God’s Three 3-Word Series
From 2019 onwards, God began to speak much more intensely and frequently. He spoke three words each year from 2019 – 2021. Unbeknownst to us then, He was revealing what was about to come and was also preparing us for the decade ahead.
The three 3-word series were:
2019 – Shift, Align, Reset
2020 – New Beginning, New Normal, Divine Upgrade
2021 – Embrace, Engage, Enter Into
Taken together, these words are meant to help the Body of Christ navigate in this decade of High Transition that we are now in. (In the interest of length, we will cover 2019’s words in this issue and 2020–2021’s in the next issue.)
Why “Shift”?
In 2019, we were about to shift into a Historic Transitional Decade in the 2020s where many things are going to change and shift even more drastically.
The Covid-19 pandemic was but a catalyst. Through the pandemic, things have really shifted. We are now living in a world that is changing at an accelerated pace on all fronts.
While we are seeing the accelerated global release of evil, God has also shifted us into His Sovereign Appointed Time of the fulfilment of many Biblical and prophetic promises for the End-Time generation!
Why “Align”?
God emphasised the need to align with Him — with His ways and what He is doing in this season.
In a season of great shift and transition, we need to keep aligning to God’s Word, values, and standards as our plumbline, so that we can discern what needs to be changed and what we have to hold fast to as believers. Hence, God was calling us to revisit our core values and our heart standards as a people of God, and radically re-align if we have strayed away.
Besides aligning with His unchanging Word, He is also calling us to align with His move and emphasis in this season. If He has spoken that this is a decade of Preparation for the Times for His people, we need to align with His required response from us in this time.
Why “Reset”?
As the people of God, we need a reset because, for the most part, we have failed to place Jesus at the centre of our lives. The reset is firstly a reset of our relationship with Jesus — to place Jesus as our one thing and to cultivate a real, deep and authentic walk with Him.
It is about resetting to the fundamentals of who we are meant to be as believers — people who are wholehearted lovers of Jesus and who are fully preoccupied with Him and His purposes. The Lord emphasised the need to dial down and throw off everything that distracts or hinders us in order to prioritise the one thing that is necessary (Lk. 10:39–42).
The second aspect of “reset” He highlighted is a reset to His storyline and narrative as laid out in the Bible. As modern believers, many of us have allowed the secular narrative (that prioritises comfort, financial security, stability etc.) to cloud our vision and crowd out the voice of God. Many of us are living for ourselves first, and not for His Kingdom.
Thus, similar to a device that is restored to “factory settings” when it is reset, God is asking us to remove the unnecessary and non-essential things in our lives and reset to Him as our one thing, and to His storyline for human history!
With Holy Spirit’s help, we see the reason why these three words “Shift, Align and Reset” were given to us together:
God was going to shift and was inviting us to shift with Him.
However, we cannot shift with Him if we don’t first align with Him and His ways.
Yet, we cannot align with Him if we don’t first reset to Him and His storyline!
An Exhortation
Even though these words were given before the pandemic, God still wants us to take heed of them! As God continues to shift human history towards the culmination of Jesus’ return, we need to watch and keep Jesus and His narrative at the centre of our lives.
If He isn’t at the centre, then it is time to fully reset ourselves to Him and His storyline!
Through it all, we can have confidence that as we set our hearts back on Him and seek to align to His ways, He is faithful to empower us with grace and more than able to lead us through this decade of High Transition and unprecedented shifts!
